‘Families Can’t Breathe’ : Why the White House wanting women to have more kids will lead to outlawing same-sex relations

The Advocate

When the destroying angel was to pass through Egypt, to destroy the first-born of man and beast, Israel was commanded to gather their children and families into their houses with them, and then mark their door-posts with blood, that the destroying angel might pass by their dwellings, and if they failed to go through with this process, there was no difference made between them and the Egyptians. The Trump administration and conservative Christians are aiming to overturn Lawrence v. Texas
The Trump administration and conservative Christians are aiming to overturn Lawrence v. Texas

It was only a matter of time.

The news this week in The New York Times that the Trump White House is searching for ways to “persuade” women to have more children is not some quirky cultural proposal or a benign baby boom fantasy — it’s another attack on bodily autonomy after restricting reproductive rights and limiting types of gender-affirming care.

If you were shocked to hear this news, just wait until you see how far it emboldens conservative Christians to go even further. Their assault on sex has only just begun.

Chaplain of the United Nations, Sunday Laws and Mass With Families! the federal government is coming!

It’s a dystopian unveiling of a pro-natalist agenda that social conservatives have been carefully constructing brick by brick, headline by headline led by Elon Musk, until now, when the facade has finally fallen and the truth stands exposed. And that truth is that the federal government is coming for your bedroom, your uterus, and your right to choose if, when, and how to have children — and sex.

Let’s be clear. Telling women to have more children is not “encouragement.” It is coercion wrapped in a phony flag and sealed with a sanctimonious cross. It’s a policy designed not for liberty but for control. The same extremists who cheer when a woman is forced to carry her rapist’s child are now crafting federal proposals to “incentivize” women into becoming baby-making machines.

The destroying angel is soon to go forth again, not to destroy the first-born alone, but “to slay utterly old and young, both men, women and little children” who have not the mark. Parents, if you wish to save your children, separate them from the world, keep them from the company of wicked children; for if you suffer them to go with wicked children, you cannot prevent them from partaking of their wickedness and being corrupted. It is your solemn duty to watch over your children, to choose the society at all times for them. Learn your children to obey you, then can they more easily obey the commandments of God, and yield to his requirements. Don’t let us neglect to pray with, and for our children. He that said, “Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not,” will listen to our prayers for them, and the seal, or mark, of believing parents will cover their children, if they are trained up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
E. G. White. RH September 19,  1854, par. 13 – rh null.null.1854

What’s next? A government birthing schedule? A state-sanctioned pregnancy quota? Or a ban on sex between two men or two women? Because the Christian right believes that sex should be only about having babies. Sex for love or pleasure is a damnable sin.

A day of great intellectual darkness has been shown to be favorable to the success of the papacy. It will yet be demonstrated that a day of great intellectual light is equally favorable for its success. In past ages, when men were without God’s word and without the knowledge of the truth, their eyes were blindfolded, and thousands were ensnared, not seeing the net spread for their feet. In this generation there are many whose eyes become dazzled by the glare of human speculations, “science falsely so called;” they discern not the net, and walk into it as readily as if blindfolded. GC 572.3

Does all this sound familiar? It should. Margaret Atwood wrote the warning decades ago. In The Handmaid’s Tale, fertile women were forced to bear children for powerful men and shuffled between households like property. You had three chances, three homes, three assignments. Refuse? Resist? You’d end up in the Colonies, discarded, punished, or worse. It was fiction once. But now it’s a blueprint for Trump, Musk, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Sen. Ted Cruz, among others.

I stopped watching the miniseries of The Handmaid’s Tale after the first season in 2017, and that is because I long felt that Donald Trump and the extreme right would someday try to mimic the plot of the show. That series scared the hell out of me. It didn’t come to fruition in the first term, but here we are, and I’m astounded and horrified to say I told you so.

I was pointed back to faithful Noah. The rain descended, the floods came, Noah, and his family had entered the ark, and God shut them in. Noah had faithfully warned the inhabitants of the old world, while they had mocked and derided him. And as the waters descended upon the earth, and as one after another were being drowned, they beheld that ark that they had made so much sport of, riding safely upon the waters, preserving the faithful Noah and his family. So I saw that the people of God, who had warned the world of his coming wrath, would  be delivered. They had faithfully warned the inhabitants of the earth, and God would not suffer the wicked to destroy those who were expecting translation, and who would not bow to the decree of the beast, or receive his mark. I saw that if the wicked were permitted to slay the saints, Satan and all his evil host, and all who hate God, would be gratified. And O, what a time of triumph it would be for his Satanic majesty, to have power, in the last closing struggle, over those who had so long waited to behold Him whom they loved. Those who have mocked at the idea of the saints going up, will witness the care of God for his people, and their glorious deliverance.
As the saints left the cities and villages, they were pursued by the wicked. They raised their swords to kill the saints, but they broke, and fell as powerless as a straw. Angels of God shielded the saints. As they cried day and night for deliverance, their cry came up before God. 1SG 203.1 – 1SG 204.1

Today In China 🇨🇳, Tomorrow in the USA 🇺🇸

As reported in the Times, officials are exploring how to “support” women in having more children, complete with cash payments, policy shifts, and a looming sense that your worth to the state may soon be measured in diapers and delivery dates.

Thus the false science of the present day, which undermines faith in the Bible, will prove as successful in preparing the way for the acceptance of the papacy, with its pleasing forms, as did the withholding of knowledge in opening the way for its aggrandizement in the Dark Ages.
In the movements now in progress in the United States to secure for the institutions and usages of the church the support of the state, Protestants are following in the steps of papists. Nay, more, they are opening the door for the papacy to regain in Protestant America the supremacy which she has lost in the Old World. And that which gives greater significance to this movement is the fact that the principal object contemplated is the enforcement of Sunday observance—a custom which originated with Rome, and which she claims as the sign of her authority. It is the spirit of the papacy—the spirit of conformity to worldly customs, the veneration for human traditions above the commandments of God—that is permeating the Protestant churches and leading them on to do the same work of Sunday exaltation which the papacy has done before them. GC 572.3 – GC 573.1

It eerily echoes China’s recent expansion of its family planning allowance from two children to three, under the watchful eye of the Chinese Communist Party. We used to criticize authoritarian regimes for such population engineering. Now we imitate them. And we might be at war with China on tariffs, it seems we also want to compete with them on how many children our citizens have.

But make no mistake, this isn’t about economic growth, declining birth rates, or family values. This is about a radical right-wing movement, fueled by white nationalism, Christian domination, and toxic masculinity.

Trump and his ilk seek to rebuild America in their own image: white, straight, and male-dominated like a UFC championship fight, where men are men, and women are … well, just subservient women.

[9] The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever. [10] Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction. [11] If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.Micah 2 : 9-11

Pronatalism, as chillingly outlined in The Guardian, is the ideological backbone of this movement. It’s not just pro-birth, it’s anti-choice. Anti-freedom. Anti-you. And virulently anti-LGBTQ+.

In the pronatalist worldview, the womb is a tool for the state

In the pronatalist worldview, the womb is a tool for the state. Your sexual autonomy is negotiable. Your career, your goals, and your body are all secondary to your duty to reproduce. If that doesn’t scare you, you’re not paying attention, because you’re about to see The Handmaid’s Tale become reality.

And where this is heading is even darker. The same extremists behind this push to increase birth rates are the ones who celebrated the fall of Roe v. Wade. They’re the ones who now target IVF and contraception.

[9] The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever. [10] Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction. [11] If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people. [12] I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.
Micah 2 : 9-12

They want to outlaw your family

They’re also the ones like Cruz, who are openly calling for a reversal of Lawrence v. Texas, the 2003 Supreme Court decision that found it unconstitutional to criminalize sex between two consenting adults of the same gender. They want to outlaw your family, your love, your very existence, and most especially “deviant homosexuals.”

Because if sex isn’t for procreation, it’s sinful in their eyes. That’s the logic. That’s the theology masquerading as law. Christian fundamentalists believe that the only righteous form of sex is between a married cisgender man and cisgender woman with the intent to conceive.

Everything else, including gay sex and even straight pleasure without pregnancy, is perverse. So if the government can tell a woman she should have more children, it can also tell two men or two women they must not have sex. It’s all part of the same crusade.

They want to reshape American bedrooms into sterile procreation chambers.

They want to reshape American bedrooms into sterile procreation chambers. They want to replace intimacy with obligation, consent with command, desire with duty. It’s not “family values.” It’s state-imposed M-F breeding. And when they’ve finished controlling women’s bodies and trans bodies, they will come for other queer bodies next. Count on it.

If this administration truly cared about families, it would be investing in child care, paid family leave, affordable health care, and maternal mortality prevention. It would stop criminalizing abortion, banning books, and attacking LGBTQ+ parents. But they’re not doing any of that. Instead, they’re offering cash bounties for babies while stripping away every freedom that lets a woman choose her own life.

A future where choice is eradicated, where privacy is policed, and where the personal becomes punishable.

And eventually, freedom for two women or two men to have sex.

So when Trump’s advisers talk about “persuading” women to have more children, understand the code. This isn’t persuasion — it’s preparation for something much larger. For a future where choice is eradicated, where privacy is policed, and where the personal becomes punishable.

If you’re not terrified yet, you should be. Because this isn’t fiction like The Handmaid’s Tale anymore. It’s federal policy in the making. And it’s coming for all of us.

Protesters rally to show support to Palestinians and Hezbollah, in Sanaa

By Nidal al-Mughrabi

CAIRO (Reuters) -Hamas wants a comprehensive deal to end the war in Gaza and swap all Israeli hostages for Palestinians jailed in Israel, a senior official from the Palestinian militant group said, rejecting Israel’s offer of an interim truce.

Our people have been regarded as too insignificant to be worthy of notice, but a change will come. The Christian world is now making movements which will necessarily bring commandment-keeping people into prominence.94
The whole world is to be stirred with enmity against Seventh-day Adventists, because they will not yield homage to the papacy, by honoring Sunday, the institution of this antichristian power. It is the purpose of Satan to cause them to be blotted from the earth, in order that his supremacy of the world may not be disputed. Mar 217.2 – Mar 217.3

In a televised speech, Khalil Al-Hayya, the group’s Gaza chief who leads its negotiating team, said the group would no longer agree to interim deals, adopting a position that Israel is unlikely to accept and potentially further delaying an end to the devastating attacks that restarted in recent weeks.

Instead, Hayya said Hamas was ready to immediately engage in “comprehensive package negotiations” to release all remaining hostages in its custody in return for an end to the Gaza war, the release of Palestinians jailed by Israel, and the reconstruction of Gaza.

While Paul tarried at Caesarea, “there came down from Judea a certain prophet, named Agabus. And when he was come unto us,” Luke says, “he took Paul’s girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.” AA 397.2

“Netanyahu and his government use partial agreements as a cover for their political agenda, which is based on continuing the war of extermination and starvation, even if the price is sacrificing all his prisoners (hostages),” said Hayya, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“We will not be part of passing this policy.”

Egyptian mediators have been working to revive the January ceasefire agreement that halted fighting in Gaza before it broke down last month, but there has been little sign of progress with both Israel and Hamas blaming each other.

“Hamas’s comments demonstrate they are not interested in peace but perpetual violence. The terms made by the Trump Administration have not changed: release the hostages or face hell,” said National Security Council spokesperson James Hewitt.

We shall be attacked on every point; we shall be tried to the utmost. We do not want to hold our faith simply because it was handed down to us by our fathers. Such a faith will not stand the terrible test that is before us. We want to know why we are Seventh-day Adventists, what real reason we have for coming out from the world as a separate and distinct people…. Mar 217.6

The latest round of talks on Monday in Cairo to restore the ceasefire and free Israeli hostages ended with no apparent breakthrough, Palestinian and Egyptian sources said.

Hamas has already rejected one of its conditions – that it lay down its arms.

Israel had proposed a 45-day truce in Gaza to allow hostage releases and potentially begin indirect talks to end the war. Hamas has already rejected one of its conditions – that it lay down its arms. In his speech, Hayya accused Israel of offering a counterproposal with “impossible conditions.”

Hamas released 38 hostages under a ceasefire that began on January 19. In March, Israel’s military resumed its ground and aerial offensive on Gaza, abandoning the ceasefire after Hamas rejected proposals to extend the truce without ending the war.

Israeli officials say that the offensive will continue until the remaining 59 hostages are freed and Gaza is demilitarized. Hamas insists it will free hostages only as part of a deal to end the war and has rejected demands to lay down its arms.

ISRAELI STRIKES

On Tuesday, the armed wing of Hamas armed said the group had lost contact with militants holding Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander after the Israeli army attacked their hideout. Alexander is a New Jersey native and a 21-year-old soldier in the Israeli army.

The armed wing later released a video warning hostages’ families that their “children will return in black coffins with their bodies torn apart from shrapnel from your army.”

Israeli military strikes killed at least 32 Palestinians, including women and children, across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, local health authorities said.

One of those strikes killed six people and wounded several others at a UN-run school in Jabalia in northern Gaza Strip. The Israeli military said the strike targeted a Hamas command center.

The war was triggered by Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel, in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage to Gaza, according to Israeli tallies.

Since then, more than 51,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli offensive, according to local health authorities.

With food scarce in the besieged and war-battered Gaza Strip, some desperate families have turned to eating sea turtles as a rare source of protein.

[9] On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: [10] And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, [11] And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: [12] Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. [13] And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. [14] But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. [15] And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.Acts 10 : 9-15

Once the shell has been removed, the meat is cut up, boiled and cooked in a mix of onion, pepper, tomato and spices.

The children were afraid of the turtle, and we told them it tasted as delicious as veal,” said Majida Qanan, keeping an eye on the chunks of red meat simmering in a pot over a wood fire.

[26] But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. [27] And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Matthew 15 : 26-27

“Some of them ate it, but others refused.”

For lack of a better alternative, this is the third time 61-year-old Qanan has prepared a turtle-based meal for her family who were displaced and now live in a tent in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza largest city.

Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.Jeremiah 8 : 7

After 18 months of devastating war and an Israeli blockade on aid since March 2, the United Nations has warned of a dire humanitarian situation for the 2.4 million inhabitants of the Palestinian territory.

Israel has accused Hamas of diverting aid, which the Palestinian militant group denies.

The heads of 12 major aid organisations warned on Thursday that “famine is not just a risk, but likely rapidly unfolding in almost all parts” of the territory.

There are no open crossings and there is nothing in the market,” said Qanan.

[30] But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. [31] And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? [32] They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. [33] For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil. [34] The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! [35] But wisdom is justified of all her children. [36] And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. [37] And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, [38] And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.Luke 7 : 30-38

When I buy two small bags (of vegetables) for 80 shekels ($22), there is no meat,” she added.

Sea turtles are internationally protected as an endangered species, but those caught in Gaza fishermen’s nets are used for food.

Qanan mixes the meat with flour and vinegar to wash it, before rinsing and boiling it in an old metal pot.

– ‘Never expected to eat a turtle’ –

[2] Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. [3] Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
Isaiah 55 : 2-3

We never expected to eat a turtle,” fisherman Abdel Halim Qanan said.

“When the war started, there was a food shortage. There is no food. So (turtle meat) is an alternative for other sources of protein. There is no meat, poultry or vegetables.”

The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has warned that Gaza is facing its most severe humanitarian crisis since the war began on October 7, 2023, triggered by Hamas’s attack on Israel.

Fighting has raged in Gaza since then, pausing only twice — recently during a two-month ceasefire between January 19 and March 17, and in a previous one-week halt in late November 2023.

The World Health Organization’s regional chief Hanan Balkhy said in June that some Gazans were so desperate that they were eating animal food, grass, and drinking sewage water.

Hamas on Thursday accused Israel of using “starvation as a weapon” against Gazans by blocking aid supplies.

Fisherman Qanan said the turtles were killed in the “halal” method, in accordance with Islamic rites.

And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. Mark 1 : 17

“If there was no famine, we would not eat it and leave it, but we want to compensate for the lack of protein,” he said.

But the masses of the people turn away their ears from hearing the truth and are turned unto fables. The apostle Paul declared, looking down to the last days: “The time will come when they will not  endure sound doctrine.” 2 Timothy 4:3. That time has fully come. The multitudes do not want Bible truth, because it interferes with the desires of the sinful, world-loving heart; and Satan supplies the deceptions which they love. GC 594.2

‘As The Storm Approaches’ : Trump allows commercial fishing in previously banned waters of the Pacific Ocean

April 17 (UPI) — U.S. commercial fishers can operate in the formerly off-limits Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, President Donald Trump announced Thursday.

“Commercial fishing is currently prohibited within its boundaries,” but “appropriately managed commercial fishing would not put the objects of scientific and historic interest that the PRIMM protects at risk,” Trump said in a proclamation.

The National Marine Fisheries Service and the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council manage commercial fishing in the region.

Those regulatory bodies do “little to guard fish populations against overfishing as tuna and other pelagic species found within the boundaries of the PRIMM are migratory in nature and do not permanently reside within the PRIMM,” Trump said.

By night  the angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and said to the disciples, “Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.” This command was directly contrary to the order given by the Jewish rulers; but did the apostles say, We cannot do this until we have consulted the magistrates and received permission from them? No; God had said, “Go,” and they obeyed. “They entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught.” AA 79.2

U.S. commercial fishing fleets have lost access to almost half of the nation’s exclusive economic zone in the Pacific islands.

“This has driven American fishermen to fish further offshore in international waters to compete against poorly regulated and highly subsidized foreign fleets,” the president said.

U.S. commercial fishermen are disadvantaged by the PRIMM regulations, which also impact American Samoa and other U.S. territories in the area, Trump said.

The economies of those territories are highly dependent on the commercial fishing industry, but Trump said the PRIMM regulations stop them from fishing productive areas.

He also said the Endangered Species Act and similar federal laws effectively prevent overfishing while protecting endangered species and critical habitats.

“A prohibition on commercial fishing is not … necessary for the proper care and management of the PRIM or the objects of historic or scientific interest therein,” Trump said in the proclamation.

As of Thursday, commercial fishing only by U.S.-flagged vessels is allowed within 50 and 200 nautical miles of PRIMM’s landward boundaries.

They hoped so to excite the mob that it would take the matter in hand and deal with the disciples as it had dealt with Jesus. They were aware that many who did not accept the teachings of Christ were weary of the arbitrary rule of the Jewish authorities and anxious for some change. The priests feared that if these dissatisfied ones were to accept the truths proclaimed by the apostles, and were to acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah, the anger of the entire people would be raised against the religious leaders, who would then be made to answer  for the murder of Christ. They decided to take strong measures to prevent this. AA 80.2

President George W. Bush established the PRIMM on Jan. 6, 2009, to “protect and preserve the lands and marine environment” around several islands, atolls and a reef, Trump said in the proclamation.

As the storm approaches, a large class who have professed faith in the third angel’s message, but have not been sanctified through obedience to the truth, abandon their position and join the ranks of the opposition. By uniting with the world and partaking of its spirit, they have come to view matters in nearly the same light; and when the test is brought, they are prepared to choose the easy, popular side. Men of talent and pleasing address, who once rejoiced in the truth, employ their powers to deceive and mislead souls. They become the most bitter enemies of their former brethren. When Sabbathkeepers are brought before the courts to answer for their faith, these apostates are the most efficient agents of Satan to misrepresent and accuse them, and by false reports and insinuations to stir up the rulers against them.
In this time of persecution the faith of the Lord’s servants will be tried.  GC 608.2 – GC 608.3

President Barack Obama expanded the PRIMM area in 2014, which protects the lands and marine environment around Wake, Baker, Howland and Jarvis Islands.

Areas in and near the Johnston and Palmyra atolls and Kingman Reef are also protected.

PRIMM protects the fish, birds, marine mammals, coral and general biodiversity located within the PRIMM area, which encompasses more than 400,000 square miles.

China has options: The U.S. may be more dependent on trade with Asia than President Trump realizes

Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing on Nov. 9, 2017.
  • In today’s CEO Daily: Nicholas Gordon, Fortune’s Asia Editor, on how the U.S. may be more dependent on trade with Asia than President Trump realizes.
  • The big story: Fed chair Jerome Powell warns that Trump’s tariffs could lead to “higher inflation and slower growth.”
  • The markets: U.S. down, Asia up, Europe struggling, but U.S. futures look sunny.
  • Analyst notes from JPMorgan on the budget, Wedbush on Nvidia, Apollo on recession, and UBS on the trade war.
  • Plus: All the news and watercooler chat from Fortune.

Good morning. Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs spared no country: U.S. allies, emerging markets, and even those countries that ran trade deficits with the U.S. all got hit. China has garnered much of the attention. But dig deeper and you’ll find a mix of confusion and disappointment among U.S. allies.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba talks about needing to understand the “emotional elements” behind Trump’s views on trade. Australia is blasting the tariffs as having “no basis in logic” as some of its exporters step up trade with China. Lawrence Wong, prime minister of Singapore—perhaps the country that benefits most from free trade—now warns of a “more arbitrary, protectionist, and dangerous” world. Here are three things U.S. CEOs can expect to see from Asia as this trade war plays out.

China has options. The White House is arguing that China needs the U.S.’s giant consumer market more than the U.S. needs cheap Chinese manufacturing. But the reverse is likely true. U.S. retailers and manufacturers rely on Chinese (and, by extension, Asian) supply chains. Steep 145% tariffs will mean massive price hikes for U.S. consumers and increased costs for U.S.-based manufacturers. China will be hurt from losing the U.S. market, but Beijing is likely betting that Trump will be hurt more. They may be right: Trump exempted smartphones, laptops and other electronics from most of his China tariffs.

And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.
Joshua 11 : 5

We shall be attacked on every point; we shall be tried to the utmost. We do not want to hold our faith simply because it was handed down to us by our fathers. Such a faith will not stand the terrible test that is before us. We want to know why we are Seventh-day Adventists, what real reason we have for coming out from the world as a separate and distinct people….
The powers of darkness will open their batteries upon us; and all who are indifferent and careless, who have set their affections on their earthly treasure, and who have not cared to understand God’s dealings with His people, will be ready victims. No power but a knowledge of the truth as it is in Jesus, will ever make us steadfast; but with this, one may chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight. Mar 217.6 – Mar 217.7

Asian countries may start to work closely together. Even as Asian leaders frantically fly to Washington to start trade negotiations, they’ve started to build relationships with each other. Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is calling for ASEAN to take a united front in trade negotiations with the U.S. Xi Jinping is in the middle of a three-country tour of Southeast Asia. China, Japan and South Korea are talking about promoting trade. New Zealand is calling for a new rules-based trade bloc. Europe, too, is tentatively communicating more with China. Southeast Asia may now move towards “greater economic integration that it long aspired to, but was unmotivated to swim hard towards,” says Devadas Krishnadas, founder of Future-Moves Group, a Singapore-based public policy consultancy.

Decoupling is coming—because the U.S. seems unreliable. A lot of countries in Asia really did pin their hopes on an open and stable U.S. Take Vietnam: It ran the third-largest trade surplus with the U.S. last year, behind China and Mexico, and relies on U.S.-bound exports for 30% of its GDP. Betting on the U.S. to be reasonable is a much less of a sure thing post-April 2. Even if Vietnam could get a deal, what evidence is there that Washington will stick with it? The China narrative has also changed. For years, China’s economy was slumping, its markets were uninvestable, and its “wolf warrior” diplomats undermined foreign policy. Now, China appears to be catching up in key sectors like EVs and AI. It looks like a bastion of stability in light of the U.S.’s policy flip-flops. Many countries would prefer not to choose between the U.S. and China. But if they are forced, they might not choose Washington.

China has stopped exporting rare earths to everyone, not just the U.S., cutting off critical materials for tech, autos, aerospace, and defense

China is exploiting a highly lopsided advantage it has in global trade as it hits back against President Donald Trump’s tariffs: rare earths.

After Trump unveiled his “Liberation Day” tariffs on April 2, China retaliated on April 4 with its own duties as well as export controls on several rare earth minerals and magnets made from them.

And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure.Isaiah 33 : 6

So far, those export controls have translated to a halt across the board, cutting off the U.S. and other countries, according to the New York Times.

The leaders in the Jewish nation had signally failed of fulfilling God’s purpose for His chosen people. Those  whom the Lord had made the depositaries of truth had proved unfaithful to their trust, and God chose others to do His work. In their blindness these leaders now gave full sway to what they called righteous indignation against the ones who were setting aside their cherished doctrines.  AA 78.3

That’s because any exports of the minerals and magnets now require special licenses, but Beijing has yet to fully establish a system for issuing them, the report said.

In the meantime, shipments of rare earths have been halted at many ports, with customs officials blocking exports to any country, including to the U.S. as well as Japan and Germany, sources told the Times. China’s Ministry of Commerce issued export restrictions alongside the General Administration of Customs, prohibiting Chinese businesses from any engagement with U.S. firms, especially defense contractors.

While the Trump administration unveiled tariff exemptions on a range of key tech imports late Friday night, China’s magnet exports were still halted through the weekend, industry sources told the Times.

Beijing’s export halt is notable because China has a stranglehold on global supplies of rare earths and magnets derived from them.

They also represent an asymmetric advantage in that rare earths constitute a small share of China’s exports but have an outsize impact on trade partners like the U.S., which relies on them as critical inputs for the auto, chip, aerospace, and defense industries.

“The purpose of the Chinese government’s lawful implementation of these export controls is to better safeguard national security and interests, and to fulfill international obligations related to non-proliferation,” China’s U.S. embassy said in a statement. “These rare earth materials have dual-use potential for both civilian and military applications, and imposing export controls on such items is a common international practice.”

National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett addressed the situation on Monday, acknowledging concern and saying, “Rare earths are a part of lots of the economy.”

The rare earth limits are being studied very carefully, and they’re concerning, and we’re thinking about all the options right now,” he told reporters outside the White House.

China’s export restrictions also put Trump’s attempts to gain control of Greenland in a fresh light. The self-governing Danish island possesses one of the world’s largest known rare earth deposits.

Vice President JD Vance visited Greenland earlier this month, despite repeated pushback from Denmark against U.S. rhetoric.

“We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it,” Trump said in an address to Congress last month.

Meanwhile, Trump has also been pursuing a deal with Ukraine to develop rare earth supplies. He said in February he wanted “the equivalent of, like, $500 billion worth of rare earths.” Those talks are ongoing.

Last month, Trump signed an executive order that directed federal agencies to identify mines and government-owned land that could help increase rare earth production.

The Trump administration is also drafting another executive order to clear the way for stockpiling deep-sea metals to offset China’s control of rare earth supply chains, sources told the Financial Times.

Treasures of Truth are for Those Who Dig

If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:4, 5, NKJV.

Let none think that there is no more knowledge for them to gain. The depth of human intellect may be measured; the works of human authors may be mastered; but the highest, deepest, broadest flight of the imagination cannot find out God. There is infinity beyond all that we can comprehend. We have seen only the glimmering of divine glory and of the infinitude of knowledge and wisdom; we have, as it were, been working on the surface of the mine, when rich, golden ore is beneath the surface, to reward the one who will dig for it. The shaft must be sunk deeper and yet deeper in the mine, and the result will be glorious treasure. Through a correct faith, divine knowledge will become human knowledge.

No one can search the Scriptures in the spirit of Christ without being rewarded. When men and women are willing to be instructed as a little child, when they submit wholly to Christ, they will find the truth in His Word. If people would be obedient, they would understand the plan of God’s government. The heavenly world would open its treasures of grace and glory for exploration. Human beings would be altogether different from what they are now; for by exploring the mines of truth, they would be ennobled. The mystery of redemption, the incarnation of Christ, His atoning sacrifice, would not be, as they are now, vague in our minds. They would be, not only better understood, but altogether more highly appreciated….

The value of this treasure is above gold or silver. The riches of earth’s mines cannot compare with it. “The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me. It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.”—The Signs of the Times, September 12, 1906. BLJ 110.1 – BLJ 110.4

China wants partnership with EU to counter US ‘abuse’, says envoy to Spain

Interview with Yao Jing, in Madrid

By David Latona

MADRID (Reuters) – China wants to deal with the European Union as a partner instead of a rival, its ambassador to Spain said, amid shifting geopolitics and Washington’s new trade policy which he described as unilateral economic abuse.

Yao Jing told Reuters the EU’s 2019 strategy that defined China as its “partner for cooperation, economic competitor and systemic rival” made little sense as both championed open markets and rules-based trade.

“We should put our focus on partnership. China will never be a threat or any kind of enemy to the EU,” Yao said, praising the bloc’s multilateral approach to foreign affairs, as opposed to President Donald Trump’s isolationist agenda.

[1] And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, [2] And to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west, [3] And to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh. [4] And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many. [5] And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel. [6] And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. [7] So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.Joshua 11 : 1-7

Satanic agencies are moved by a power from beneath to stir up wicked men to unite with the enemy in causing distress to the people who are keeping the commandments of God. The whole world is stirred against them because they will not worship the institution of the papacy. Satan is as full of bitter hatred and malignity against them as he was against Christ, when he stirred the world to choose a robber and murderer instead of the Son of God. When the question was asked, “Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?” the answer came back, “Release unto us Barabbas.” The religious leaders and guides of the people—the men who ought to have led in right paths—persuaded the poor, ignorant multitude to reject the Son of God, and choose a robber and murderer in His place. RH August 20,  1901, par. 2

Last week, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez met with President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The visit was widely seen as a bid to forge closer economic and political ties between China and Europe amid the fallout from Trump’s tariffs.

Just before Sanchez’s trip, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that moving closer to the Asian country would be “cutting your own throat“, a comment dismissed by Madrid.

Yao said he was shocked by Bessent’s remarks, adding that the U.S. “in fact cuts everyone’s throats” with its unilateral tariffs.

And this is why China is firmly against this kind of economic abuse by the United States,” he said.

[1] Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another? [2] And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die. [3] And Joseph’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt. Genesis 42 : 1-3

‘OPEN DOOR’

Yao said Europe should drop its export controls on certain high-tech products, including semiconductors, as well as tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) and limitations for Chinese companies such as Huawei or ZTE to access Europe’s 5G network.

Beijing, in its turn, has been opening up sectors such as telecommunications, banking or manufacturing for foreign investment, he said.

Yao said the EU’s trade deficit with China, of around $345 billion last year, could not disappear overnight due to structural issues, but expected gradual progress.

We’ve made it very clear that China will open its door with the passage of time, and this door will never be closed. We’re ready to open our market to other EU members, like we just did with Spain,” he said.

The two countries agreed on Friday to allow Chinese market access to Spanish pork stomach – a product widely consumed in China but not previously authorised. Some analysts saw it as a signal Beijing might ease its anti-dumping inquiry into EU pork, launched last year in retaliation for EU tariffs on Chinese EVs.

Yao said the probe was ongoing but there was a willingness to address differences through negotiations.

‘Crumbs fall from masters’ table’ : Chinese Mockery of U.S. Manufacturing Reveals Economic Truth

A “Make American Strong Again” banner hangs on the wall as rows upon rows of overweight workers assemble Nike sneakers; one lifts a burger up to his mouth as he eats while working, another rests his head on the sewing machine in front of him, barely able to keep his eyes open.

It’s a caricature of U.S. manufacturing that Chinese netizens have been laughing at over the past week, as social media platforms have seen a wave of AI-generated videos portraying what some think it would look like for Americans to work in sweatshop-like textile factories and iPhone assembly lines more commonly associated with China.

Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.Judges 12 : 6, In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction.Isaiah 19 : 18

As U.S. President Donald Trump escalates a trade war with China that he began in his first term—seeing tariffs, which are taxes on imports, as a path to restore a U.S. manufacturing sector that has steadily declined over decades—China’s government has made its opposition clear: After Trump’s “Liberation Day” on April 2, when he hiked tariffs on all global trade partners, Chinese state media produced AI-generated parody videos slamming Trump’s approach as costly, divisive, and dangerous. After Trump announced a 90-day pause for other countries but further hiked tariffs on China, which now stand at 145%, China’s finance ministry raised its retaliatory tariff on U.S. goods to 125% but said that it wouldn’t continue to respond with tit-for-tat increases, arguing that doing so amounts to nothing more than a “numbers game” as the current rate already makes imports from the U.S. prohibitively expensive.

And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?Luke 2 : 49, Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.Zechariah 8 : 3

“It would be a joke,” the ministry said, promising other unspecified countermeasures if its interests continue to be infringed.

Economic Warfare!

But while a trade war between the world’s two biggest economies is certainly not funny for Beijing, the AI-generated videos gone viral among Chinese social media users satirizing fictitious American manufacturing workers do get at a more serious truth.

The joke is Americans don’t want to do those jobs,” Mark Cogan, associate professor of peace and conflict studies at Japan’s Kansai Gaidai University and a U.S. national, tells TIME. “We’re the punchline.”

The economic reality_ What is Truth? The Seed!

And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?Luke 2 : 49

Trump has promised that his tariffs will usher in a “new golden age” for American workers, harkening back to an industrial past that has been lost to decades of globalization. The logic goes that by raising the price of foreign goods, businesses and consumers will be discouraged from importing and instead invest in U.S.-based manufacturing and American-made goods. But the irony, economists say, is that the trade deficits that he seeks to reverse are a sign of the U.S. economy’s relative dominance, not weakness.

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. Psalm 126 : 5, If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your prison: go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses:Genesis 42 : 19

As the controversy extends into new fields and the minds of the people are called to God’s downtrodden law, Satan is astir. The power attending the message will only madden those who oppose it. The clergy will put forth almost superhuman efforts to shut away the light lest it should shine upon their flocks. By every means at their command they will endeavor to suppress the discussion of these vital questions. The church appeals to the strong arm of civil power, and, in this work, papists and Protestants unite. As the movement for Sunday enforcement becomes more bold and decided, the law will be invoked against commandment keepers. They will be threatened with fines and imprisonment, and some will be offered positions of influence, and other rewards and advantages, as inducements to renounce their faith. But their steadfast answer is: “Show us from the word of God our error”—the same plea that was made by Luther under similar circumstances. Those who are arraigned before the courts make a strong vindication of the truth, and some who hear them are led to take their stand to keep all the commandments of God. Thus light will be brought before thousands who otherwise would know nothing of these truths. GC 607.1

The U.S. is at a state of development where it has moved beyond manufacturing,” Jayant Menon, a research fellow at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, previously told TIME. “This is what manufacturing countries are trying to aspire to, and this guy is trying to go the other way.”

And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. Matthew 25 : 25

What is more likely to happen, economists have said, is that as the relatively cheap goods that Americans are accustomed to being able to buy dramatically rise in price, consumers will simply buy fewer things. And greater U.S.-based manufacturing wouldn’t necessarily result in lower prices because it would still involve higher costs—for many overseas manufacturers, paying the tariff would still be less costly than relocating to the U.S.

Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. Hebrews 11 : 26

The biggest reasons why China and not the U.S. has come to be the world’s “sole manufacturing superpower,” or “the world’s factory,” are its greater labor supply and thus lower wages, more efficient domestic business and supply chain ecosystem, and relatively lax regulatory environment. Tariffs alone won’t change these underlying factors for the U.S.

“If you think about producing a laptop in China versus the U.S.,” says Yuan Mei, assistant professor in the School of Economics at Singapore Management University, “in China a lot of parts and components of the laptop are produced within China, so shipping those components within the country is pretty cheap.” Many other components, like chips, are produced in other Asian nations, like Japan and South Korea, which also means relatively cheaper shipping to China than to the U.S.

[23] They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; [24] These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. Psalm 107 : 23-24

But the mismatch between America’s workforce and China’s is perhaps the biggest obstacle to shifting a significant amount of manufacturing from China to the U.S. In the U.S., as of March 2025, just under 13 million workers are employed in the manufacturing sector, while just over 7 million Americans are unemployed. China’s manufacturing sector, meanwhile, employs more than 100 million people, while high unemployment and low regulations suppress wages and labor conditions.

And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? Acts 19 : 15, They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.Matthew 20 : 7

While many Americans—80% of respondents to a CATO Institute survey—agree in principle with the idea that the U.S. would be better off if more Americans worked in manufacturing, far fewer would actually want to take such a job themself: only 25% of the CATO survey’s respondents said they believed they would be better off in a manufacturing job.

Moreover, economists have noted that much of the manufacturing work that could be transplanted to the U.S. may actually be more efficiently automated, or done by machines instead of humans, while many of the jobs that would be needed may require skills that the U.S. is short on.

They would not admit even the possibility that they themselves did not rightly understand the word, or that they had misinterpreted or misapplied the Scriptures. They acted like men who had lost their reason. What right have these teachers, they said, some of them mere fishermen, to present ideas contrary to the doctrines that we have taught the people? Being determined to suppress the teaching of these ideas, they imprisoned those who were presenting them. AA 78.3

The manufacturing sector relies heavily on engineers, Mei says, and engineering is among China’s most popular college majors. In the U.S., on the other hand, a large proportion of engineering and tech talent is international students—and with the Trump Administration’s crackdowns on immigrants and international students, there might eventually be, Mei says, a “gap in the supply” of engineers that the U.S. needs to boost its domestic manufacturing.

From mocking to hawking

Mei tells TIME he noticed the memes of American factory workers started to spread in recent weeks amid the escalating U.S.-China trade war, when Chinese social media users began wondering what American products may become more expensive due to Chinese retaliatory tariffs. That morphed into conversations about the difference between a brand being American, of which there are many cases, and its manufacturing being U.S.-based, which is much rarer.

“Many netizens realized that there are few examples of daily products that are produced in the U.S.,” says Mei, noting the exceptions of very expensive high tech instruments, aircraft, and pharmaceutical products.

Rather, the U.S.’s comparative advantage is in the services sector, Mei says. “Think Silicon Valley.” (Observers believe Beijing will next turn its sights to U.S. services exports, targeting American professional, legal, technological, telecommunications, education, health, entertainment, and other services, many of which have already been scrutinized and restricted, to exert pressure amid the trade war.)

The AI-generated videos depicting Americans taking factory jobs, says Ashley Dudarenok, who runs a China and Hong Kong-based consumer research consultancy, relied on subverting a “long-standing stereotype about global labor dynamics.” And quickly, she tells TIME, the caricature was “absolutely everywhere, and it’s still trending.”

There was the trade war, there was the tariff war, and now there is the meme war,” Dudarenok says.

Even among the Chinese workforce, more and more aspire to work in sectors other than manufacturing. Dudarenok says across Chinese social media she’s seen comments saying, “Chinese people don’t want to do these jobs, why would Americans want to do these jobs?” or “Chinese manufacturers are moving into Vietnam, into Africa—now we have another option: America.”

Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.Matthew 25 : 27

Still, the tariffs are no joke to those in China whose livelihoods depend on manufacturing goods for export. Some have also taken to social media to respond to the tariffs: by explaining how cheaply they actually manufacture goods and how much of the price consumers paid pre-tariffs came from brand markups.

Some have even appealed to Americans to buy directly from them. “They want to get rid of the middleman,” says Mei. But consumers should beware that claiming to manufacture for big brands while actually producing knock-offs is a common scam, and some scammers could be exploiting consumer panic about potential price hikes. While China produces more than half of the world’s clothing and textiles, Dudarenok says manufacturers that are “trusted partners” with big brands don’t typically sell their partners out so easily.

A messaging win for Beijing

If social media sentiment is anything to go off of, Mei says that there’s a lot of support among Chinese citizens for the government’s policy decisions related to Trump’s trade war. “It’s seen as a good thing that they are imposing retaliatory tariffs. A small share of Chinese netizens are still worried, and say that maybe we should just yield to the U.S., but the majority agree with the stance of the Chinese government.”

The government’s message is clear, Dudarenok says: “China is prepared to fight for its right to be in the room and to be at the table.”

Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.
Isaiah 21 : 5

Mei has even seen memes depicting China protecting other countries from U.S. bullying or suggesting China is the one country brave enough to stand up for itself.

But the sentiment isn’t just popular on Chinese social media. Reshares of posts popular on Chinese social media to X and TikTok, which are blocked within mainland China though still accessed by many users via VPNs, have garnered millions of views and tens of thousands of likes. Although it’s not clear who is generating and sharing the original videos, Cogan, the peace and conflict studies professor in Japan, says it’s nevertheless a “huge win for China.”

“I think that the Chinese understand quite well the fact that American society is quite divided, and at this particular stage of our political polarization, Americans really don’t care whose propaganda they are spreading or where the meme actually comes from—so they’re willing to spread whatever … as long as it furthers their own political messaging.”

BEIJING (Reuters) -China is “tearing down walls” and expanding its circle of trading partners, “shaking hands” instead of “shaking fists“, its foreign ministry said on Tuesday, as Beijing works on diversifying ties amid an escalating trade war with the U.S.

President Donald Trump has added an eye-watering 145% of tariffs on Chinese goods this year as part of broader reciprocal duties on all U.S. trading partners. That prompted ridicule and criticism from Beijing, which retaliated by jacking up levies on U.S. goods by 125%.

In the face of external uncertainties, China will insist on shaking hands rather than shaking fists, tearing down walls instead of building barriers, connecting instead of decoupling,” Lin Jian, a foreign ministry spokesperson, told a press briefing on Tuesday.

Christ Himself had given both the moral and the ceremonial law. He did not come to destroy confidence in His own instruction. It was because of His great reverence for the law and the prophets that He sought to break through the wall of traditional requirements which hemmed in the Jews. The World Trade Organization has warned the high-stakes Sino-U.S. trade row could cut the shipment of goods between two economies by as much as 80% and severely hurt global growth.

Beijing has called U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs strategy “a joke“, irritating U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

“These are not a joke. I mean these are big numbers,” Bessent said in a Bloomberg Television interview. “I think no one thinks they’re sustainable, wants them to remain here, but it’s far from a joke.”

Upon another Sabbath, as Jesus entered a synagogue, He saw there a man who had a withered hand. The Pharisees watched Him, eager to see what He would do. The Saviour well knew that in healing on the Sabbath He would be regarded as a transgressor, but He did not hesitate to break down the wall of traditional requirements that barricaded the Sabbath. Jesus bade the afflicted man stand forth, and then asked, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill?” It was a maxim among the Jews that a failure to do good, when one had opportunity, was to do evil; to neglect to save life was to kill. Thus Jesus met the rabbis on their own ground. “But they held their peace. And when He had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, He saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.” Mark 3:4, 5. DA 286.2

Any U.S. China negotiations would have to come from “the top,” involving Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Bessent also said.

Xi on Monday kicked off a three-nation tour of Southeast Asia. In Vietnam, which is facing potential U.S. tariffs of 46%, Xi called for the two countries to oppose “unilateral bullying” and to strengthen cooperation in production and supply chains.

Chinese and Vietnamese officials also signed dozens of cooperation deals during Xi’s visit, including on production and supply chains as well as railway cooperation.

After a two-day stop in Hanoi, Xi will continue his Southeast Asian trip by visiting Malaysia and Cambodia, which could be slapped by additional U.S. tariffs of 24% and 49%, respectively.

Unity amid the Trade Turbulence

A commentary published on Tuesday by China’s state-run People’s Daily underlined the need for unity amid the trade turbulence.

“In the face of crisis, no one can keep only to oneself,” the commentary said, referencing Dorothy’s adventure in the American children’s story The Wizard of Oz. “Only unity and cooperation can meet the challenge.”

Conscientious obedience to the word of God will be treated as rebellion. Blinded by Satan, the parent will exercise harshness and severity toward the believing child; the master or mistress will oppress the commandment-keeping servant.  GC 608.1

Jesus had begun to break down the partition wall between Jew and Gentile, and to preach salvation to the world. Though He was a Jew, He mingled freely with the Samaritans, setting at nought the Pharisaic customs of His nation. In face of their prejudices He accepted the hospitality of this despised people. He slept under their roofs, ate with them at their tables,—partaking of the food prepared and served by their hands,—taught in their streets, and treated them with the utmost kindness and courtesy. The commentary presented China as a benevolent advocate for free trade, spotlighting China’s decision to implement zero tariffs for some of its least developed partners.

(Reuters) – Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin on Wednesday met Russian nationals freed from captivity in the Gaza strip after militant group Hamas’ October 2023 attacks on Israel and said Moscow’s longstanding ties with Palestinians helped secure their freedom.

“The fact that you are now free is a result of Russia’s many years of stable relations with the Palestinian people, with the representatives of different organisations,” Russian news agencies quoted Putin as telling former hostage Alexander Trufanov and members of his family.

“Here we have to offer a word of gratitude to the leadership and to the political wing of Hamas for a gesture made to us in carrying out this humanitarian act,” the agencies said he told the late-night Kremlin meeting.

And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.Isaiah 35 : 10, Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.Isaiah 51 : 11

Russia, Putin said, “had truly done everything possible”-‘ redemption‘to secure Trufanov’s liberation and would undertake whatever was necessary to ensure those still in captivity would be freed.

The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.Isaiah 10 : 21, [44] Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry: [45] And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. [46] He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.Psalm 106 : 44-46

Trufanov was freed after nearly 500 days in captivity in February as part of talks leading to a ceasefire. He thanked Putin for helping secure his release and hoped for the release of all remaining hostages whom he viewed “like brothers”.

Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.Ephesians 4 : 8, For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,Hebrews 2 : 11

The agencies said Putin also presented flowers to Trufanov’s mother, Elena, and his fiancee, Sapir Cohen, who were also among some 250 hostages seized by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

[48] But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? [49] And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! Matthew 12 : 48-49

They were released in late 2023, as was Trufanov’s grandmother. Trufanov’s father was killed in the attacks.

Russia’s chief rabbi and the head of the federation of Russian Jewish communities also took part in the meeting.

Everything in the world is in agitation. The signs of the times are ominous. Coming events cast their shadows before. The Spirit of God is withdrawing from the earth, and calamity follows calamity by sea and by land. There are tempests, earthquakes, fires, floods, murders of every grade. Who can read the future? Where is security? There is assurance in nothing that is human or earthly. Rapidly men are ranging themselves under the banner they have chosen. Restlessly they are waiting and watching the movements of their leaders.
An intensity such as never before was seen is taking possession of the world.  ST July 6,  1904, par. 1 – ST July 6,  1904, par. 2

Russia has sought to maintain good ties with both sides in the conflict, but has said a settlement in the Middle East is only possible on the basis of a two-state solution.
