Steve Witkoff and Scott Bessent appeared for separate interviews on ABC’s This Week and CNN’s State of the Union, where both offered similar defenses for an exchange that even Republican senators and House members have openly said carries the optics of bribery.

Witkoff, the Trump White House’s Middle East envoy, spoke to ABC as efforts continue by the administration to engage with Iran in the first direct talks between the US and Iran since the Obama administration. President Trump returned from a trip to the region on Friday after touting a new major deal for Boeing in Qatar; he also visited the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The Protestants have accepted the spurious Sabbath, the child of the papacy, and have exalted it above God’s holy, sanctified day; and our institutions of learning have been established for the express purpose of counteracting the influence of those who do not follow the word of God. “It’s a perfectly legal, government to government, Department of Defense, to Department of Defense transaction that happens in the normal course and has been happening in the normal course throughout … our existence,” Witkoff claimed. “They decided to donate something because of all the wonderful things that we’ve done for them in the past.”
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff says the plane to be gifted to the Trump administration by Qatar is a “perfectly legal transaction.”
“I’m not sure how anyone would see this as the Qataris looking to gain some sort of advantage,” added Witkoff, who previously did business with the Qatari government’s sovereign wealth fund before joining the White House.
The Treasury secretary, meanwhile, likened the gift to the French government’s donation of the Statue of Liberty to the US.
“The French gave us the Statue of Liberty. The British gave us the Resolute Desk,” Scott Bessent said on CNN’s State of the Union. “I’m not sure they asked for anything in advance.”
Host Jake Tapper responded by pointing out that the statue was not for the personal use of a president, unlike the plane, which is set to be moved to Trump’s presidential library upon his departure from the White House.
“I think this plane would be a gift to the American government,” Bessent said in response.
TAPPER: “Even if Qatar isn't asking for anything in return now for the jet, I mean, that's a bill that could come due. Nobody in the Middle East – or anywhere in the world – just gives a $400 million jet just to be nice.”
The optics of the Qatari government’s gift of a palatial upgrade to the current, aging Air Force One is not lost on many, including in the GOP congressional caucuses. Others have tripped up attempting to avoid answering.
Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican senator, warned on Sunday that the president risked undermining his own message by accepting the gift.
“I think my fear is that it detracts from a largely successful trip where the president is talking about opening up and doing more trade with the Middle East, which is a good thing, particularly amidst all the protectionism and directing away from trade that we’ve had going on,” Paul said on ABC.
Mike Pence, Trump’s former running mate, also urged the president to reconsider during a separate interview on NBC’s Meet the Press.
Pro-Trump commentator Ben Shapiro, on his podcast this past week, told listeners: “I think the technical term is ‘skeezy.’”
On Friday, the president lashed out at a Fox News reporter for asking him about the growing unease over Qatar’s gift.
“I just want to say, it was a radical left story,” Trump told Fox’s Bret Baier. “I made a good deal.”
“This goes to the United States Air Force for whoever is president, and at some point, it’ll be like Ronald Reagan. It’ll be decommissioned, because they won’t want it,” he added.

Maria Del Rosario Navarro-Sanchez, 39, of Mexico, has been charged with providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, the Cartel del Jalisco Nueva Generacion, She allegedly provided the cartel with grenades and assisted in smuggling undocumented individuals, firearms, cash, and narcotics for the organization.
Our people have been regarded as too insignificant to be worthy of notice, but a change will come. The Christian world is now making movements which will necessarily bring commandment-keeping people into prominence. “CJNG is a transnational criminal organization that controls a significant portion of the narcotics trafficking trade and has a presence in nearly every part of Mexico and dozens of other countries, including the United States,” The DOJ said in a press statement. “In addition to trafficking fentanyl, CJNG engages in money laundering, bribery, extortion of migrants, taxing of migrant smugglers, and other criminal activities, including acts of violence and intimidation.”

On President Donald Trump’s first day in office, he directed the DOJ and other agencies to work toward the “total elimination” of cartels due to the “extremely serious threats” they pose to the nation, the DOJ wrote.

The Last Deception of Satan
Satan is … constantly pressing in the spurious—to lead away from the truth. The very last deception of Satan will be to make of none effect the testimony of the Spirit of God. “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Satan will work ingeniously, in different ways and through different agencies, to unsettle the confidence of God’s remnant people in the true testimony.—Letter 12, 1890.
There will be a hatred kindled against the testimonies which is satanic. Point after point of truth should be investigated; for there is no limitation to the truth of God, and in its study a most lively interest should be felt by both teachers and pupils, that they may know what God hath said. These were the chosen Servant, having the tag of name as “repairers of the breach the restorer of the path to dwell in”. The commandment is the path, “make me go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.” Psalm. 119:35. Their responsibility is to restore the commandment, & specifically the first commandment that referred to only one true God, & the rest of the commandment too. We were not confused in our responsibility to defend the first command that mentioned in 1872 principles and restore the old seventh day Adventist faith of our pioneers.

She (E.G white) defined well, the God of the repairers of the breach, they worshiped the “..the maker of heaven and the earth..” They were worshiping the true maker of heaven & the earth, they repair the first commandment & they thoroughly worshiped him as the only one true God. “ In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins and I will build it as in the days of old” Amos 9:11.
The breaches is the broken part, especially one in the first commandment as only one God, the Father & the forth commandment, His Sabbath. She said, “the forth commandment will be the greatest test” it is because of its deeper truth. As you see Amos.9:11, God will “built it as it was in the days of old” but people now say, “we will walk not in the old ways of worship” or we will not follow our old time faith of our pioneers, I regret that, this is the very saddest part I currently seen through, “Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye the ways, and see and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said we will not walk therein.” Jer.6:16
Even though we tried our best but they said, “..we will not walk therein”. It is their decisions, Christ is knocking at the door of their heart to the house of his truth that He repair through repairers of the breach, but they use their will-power to say, “ we will no walk there in”. “Multitude, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decisions”. Joel. 3:14 They said, this is Noah’s ark & anything won’t happened to them but after the sealing, “All the sinners of my people shall be die by the sward, which say, the evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.” Amso. 9:10.
The servant who cry for the abomination & restored the old truth according to the command of God, this is the only people God is sealing them, “And the Lord said unto him, go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set the Mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.” “…..let not your eye spare, neither have ye pitty:Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near anyman upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they begin at the ancient men (Started with the so called leaders) which were before the house. Ezek. 9:4-6.

They Call Themselves the Remnant. God Calls Them the Synagogue of Satan.
They trademarked the name. They incorporated the gospel. They voted in the Trinity. They filed their religion under IRS code.
And yet they dare say: “We are God’s people.”
But what does God say?
“You think, that those who worship before the saint’s feet, (Revelation 3:9), will at last be saved. Here I must differ with you; for God shew me that this class were professed Adventists, who had fallen away, and ‘crucified to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.’ And in the ‘hour of temptation,’ which is yet to come, to show out every one’s true character, they will know that they are forever lost; and overwhelmed with anguish of spirit, they will bow at the saint’s feet.” — WLF 12.2 (A Word to the Little Flock, 1847)
These are not faithful old-path believers. These are not those standing on the 1843 and 1850 charts. They are professed Adventists who fell away from the pioneer truth and formed a new organization built on sand.

What Does It Mean to “Bow at the Saints’ Feet”?
It is the moment when those who rejected the last warning will be made to see who really followed the Lamb. They will bow—not in adoration—but in anguish, before the faithful 144,000 who gave the Three Angels’ Messages: • The faithful who never gave up the old landmarks • The early SDA pioneers who proclaimed the Midnight Cry • The final generation who stood with Jesus while all others compromised
This is the honor given to those who stood for truth while the corporate Adventist system bowed to Babylon.

A Corporation That Rejected the Foundation
These modern professed Adventists are: • The 501(c)(3) trademarked Trinitarian GC-SDA • The new organization formed in 1904, legally bound to the U.S. government • The church that crucifies Christ afresh by denying His Sonship and discarding the pillars
“A new organization would be established… The fundamental principles that have sustained the work for the last fifty years would be accounted as error… Their foundation would be built on sand, and storm and tempest would sweep away the structure.” — 1SM 204 (1904)
Their GC presidents have called Protestant truth “trash.” Their publishing houses have watered down the Sanctuary. Their schools teach Rome’s trinity. And their name is legally owned and weaponized against truth.
This is not the church triumphant. This is the church militant in apostasy—501(c)(3)-registered, spiritually decayed, and dressed in a three-piece business suit with Babylon’s badge. The true church triumphant waves the banner at 144000.com—Keep the Commandments of God and the Faith of Jesus.

Is the separation of Lot a warning to us that we should separate ourselves from the corrupt churches of today, just as Lot separated himself from the corrupt city of Sodom?
“Before the destruction of Sodom, God sent a message to Lot, ‘Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.’ The same voice of warning was heard by the disciples of Christ before the destruction of Jerusalem: ‘When ye shall see Jerusalem encompassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judea flee to the mountains.’ Luke 21:20, 21. They (the disciples) must not tarry to secure anything from their possessions, but must make the most of the opportunity to escape.” PP 166.3
“There was a coming out, a decided separation from the wicked, an escape for life. So it was in the days of Noah; so with Lot; so with the disciples prior to the destruction of Jerusalem; and so it will be in the last days. Again the voice of God is heard in a message of warning, bidding His people separate themselves from the prevailing iniquity.” PP 166.4
So the voice of warning that called Noah to separate, the voice that called Lot to separate, and the voice that called the disciples to separate, is the same voice of warning that is calling us in this last day to separate. The message of warning for us today is to separate ourselves from the prevailing iniquity that is in the new organization that is the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist corporate church and other corrupt churches of the world.

These truths were not optional ideas. They were divinely revealed blueprints. They are the tables of testimony. To toss them aside is to smash the very law carved by the hand of God.

WASHINGTON −The Supreme Court on May 16 continued to block the Trump administration from using a 1798 wartime law to deport a group of Venezuelan migrants who said they had not been given a real chance to contest their removal.
In an unsigned opinion with two noted dissents, the court said the migrants haven’t had enough time or information to protect their rights. And that’s particularly important, the court said, because the administration asserts in another case that it’s not able to bring back a man who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador.
“The detainees’ interests at stake are accordingly particularly weighty,” the majority wrote.

As the controversy extends into new fields and the minds of the people are called to God’s downtrodden law, Satan is astir. The power attending the message will only madden those who oppose it. The clergy will put forth almost superhuman efforts to shut away the light lest it should shine upon their flocks. By every means at their command they will endeavor to suppress the discussion of these vital questions. The church appeals to the strong arm of civil power, and, in this work, papists and Protestants unite. As the movement for Sunday enforcement becomes more bold and decided, the law will be invoked against commandment keepers. They will be threatened with fines and imprisonment, and some will be offered positions of influence, and other rewards and advantages, as inducements to renounce their faith. But their steadfast answer is: “Show us from the word of God our error”—the same plea that was made by Luther under similar circumstances. Those who are arraigned before the courts make a strong vindication of the truth, and some who hear them are led to take their stand to keep all the commandments of God. Thus light will be brought before thousands who otherwise would know nothing of these truths. Conscientious obedience to the word of God will be treated as rebellion. Blinded by Satan, the parent will exercise harshness and severity toward the believing child; the master or mistress will oppress the commandment-keeping servant. Affection will be alienated; children will be disinherited and driven from home. The words of Paul will be literally fulfilled: “All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” 2 Timothy 3:12. As the defenders of truth refuse to honor the Sunday-sabbath, some of them will be thrust into prison, some will be exiled, some will be treated as slaves. To human wisdom all this now seems impossible; but as the restraining Spirit of God shall be withdrawn from men, and they shall be under the control of Satan, who hates the divine precepts, there will be strange developments. The heart can be very cruel when God’s fear and love are removed. GC 607.1 – GC 608.1
Stephen Vladeck, a law professor at Georgetown University, called the order “quietly significant.”
He said the Alien Enemies Act is now dead until the Supreme Court says otherwise. Plus, Vladeck said the order shows the court’s reluctance to take the Trump administration at their word, pointing to a “subtle but significant dig at the government for the shell games it’s been playing with AEA detainees.”
“We’ll see if this skepticism remains limited to the removal context, or whether it starts showing up in other rulings in Trump-related cases,” Vladeck wrote in his newsletter.
The court built on its April 19 emergency order preventing deportation that was granted after lawyers for the migrants said they were at imminent risk of removal without the judicial review previously mandated by the justices.
The new order directed a lower court to determine what process the administration must use, saying the justices are “too far removed from the circumstances on the ground” to make that determination themselves. The majority also said the appeals court should weigh whether the Alien Enemies Act can be used.
But the court agreed with the administration that they can remove anyone who meets the deportation criteria under the regular immigration code.
Court urges judges to address AEA cases `expeditiously’
The Supreme Court has not said whether it agrees with the administration that it can use that 1798 law to deport immigrants it says are members of a Venezuelan crime gang.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote in a concurring opinion that the Supreme Court should take up that issue now.
Instead, the majority urged the lower courts to address the Alien Enemies Act cases “expeditiously.”

Federal judges in New York, Colorado, and Texas have ruled against Trump’s use of the law to deport Venezuelans. A federal judge in Pennsylvania ruled on May 13 that the administration could use the law.

The Supreme Court ruled on April 8 that deportations are subject to judicial review if migrants request it in the jurisdiction where they’re being held.
Lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union said migrants being held in a Texas detention facility weren’t given a realistic opportunity to dispute their membership in a gang or otherwise fight deportation. The deportation notices they received were not in a language they could understand, did not inform them of their rights and did not allow time to exercise them, the lawyers contend.
“Under no plausible understanding of this Court’s ruling is that notice protocol satisfactory,” they told the justices.

In Texas, where the migrants were detained, a District Court and the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals each refused to block the removals so the lawyers asked the Supreme Court to intervene. Before the high court temporarily blocked the removals, migrants had been loaded onto buses that left their Texas facility, according to the ACLU filing.
Because there is no remedy for migrants who have already been deported, the ACLU lawyers asked the Supreme Court to provide guidance to lower courts about what measures are required for adequate notice to contest deportations.

The work of Sabbath reform to be accomplished in the last days is foretold in the prophecy of Isaiah: “Thus saith the Lord, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for My salvation is near to come, and My righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.” “The sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants, everyone that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of My covenant; even them will I bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer.” Isaiah 56:1, 2, 6, 7. These words apply in the Christian age, as shown by the context: “The Lord God which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.” Verse 8. Here is foreshadowed the gathering in of the Gentiles by the gospel. And upon those who then honor the Sabbath, a blessing is pronounced. Thus the obligation of the fourth commandment extends past the crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Christ, to the time when His servants should preach to all nations the message of glad tidings. The Lord commands by the same prophet: “Bind up the testimony, seal the law among My disciples.” Isaiah 8:16. The seal of God’s law is found in the fourth commandment. This only, of all the ten, brings to view both the name and the title of the Lawgiver. It declares Him to be the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and thus shows His claim to reverence and worship above all others. Aside from this precept, there is nothing in the Decalogue to show by whose authority the law is given. When the Sabbath was changed by the papal power, the seal was taken from the law. The disciples of Jesus are called upon to restore it by exalting the Sabbath of the fourth commandment to its rightful position as the Creator’s memorial and the sign of His authority. “To the law and to the testimony.” While conflicting doctrines and theories abound, the law of God is the one unerring rule by which all opinions, doctrines, and theories are to be tested. Says the prophet: “If they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Verse 20. Again, the command is given: “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show My people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” It is not the wicked world, but those whom the Lord designates as “my people,” that are to be reproved for their transgressions. He declares further: “Yet they seek Me daily, and delight to know My ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God.” Isaiah 58:1, 2. Here is brought to view a class who think themselves righteous and appear to manifest great interest in the service of God; but the stern and solemn rebuke of the Searcher of hearts proves them to be trampling upon the divine precepts. The prophet thus points out the ordinance which has been forsaken: “Thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on My holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; and shalt honor Him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord.” Verses 12-14. This prophecy also applies in our time. The breach was made in the law of God when the Sabbath was changed by the Roman power. But the time has come for that divine institution to be restored. The breach is to be repaired and the foundation of many generations to be raised up. Hallowed by the Creator’s rest and blessing, the Sabbath was kept by Adam in his innocence in holy Eden; by Adam, fallen yet repentant, when he was driven from his happy estate. It was kept by all the patriarchs, from Abel to righteous Noah, to Abraham, to Jacob. When the chosen people were in bondage in Egypt, many, in the midst of prevailing idolatry, lost their knowledge of God’s law; but when the Lord delivered Israel, He proclaimed His law in awful grandeur to the assembled multitude, that they might know His will and fear and obey Him forever. From that day to the present the knowledge of God’s law has been preserved in the earth, and the Sabbath of the fourth commandment has been kept. Though the “man of sin” succeeded in trampling underfoot God’s holy day, yet even in the period of his supremacy there were, hidden in secret places, faithful souls who paid it honor. Since the Reformation, there have been some in every generation to maintain its observance. Though often in the midst of reproach and persecution, a constant testimony has been borne to the perpetuity of the law of God and the sacred obligation of the creation Sabbath. These truths, as presented in Revelation 14 in connection with “the everlasting gospel,” will distinguish the church of Christ at the time of His appearing. For as the result of the threefold message it is announced: “Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” And this message is the last to be given before the coming of the Lord. Immediately following its proclamation the Son of man is seen by the prophet, coming in glory to reap the harvest of the earth. GC 451.1 – GC 453.3

Israeli security forces have arrested approximately 6,000 Palestinians across the territory since the massacre in southern Israel, including more than 2,350 with alleged affiliations to Hamas.
Fifty-two people, including security personnel, have been killed in incidents described as terror events in Israel and the West Bank since the atrocity.
Reliable data are difficult to obtain, partly because, according to the alleged Palestinian victims, police make it difficult for them to record complaints.
But there has been a well-documented increase, particularly in the last six months.
Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s ultra-nationalist finance minister, who comes from a West Bank settlement, called for the assailant’s village to be destroyed.

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says there is “no way” Israel will halt its war in Gaza — where airstrikes on two hospitals Tuesday killed at least eight and wounded dozens — even if a deal is reached to release more hostages.
Netanyahu’s comments are likely to complicate talks on a new ceasefire that had seemed to gain momentum after Hamas released the last living American hostage on Monday in a gesture to U.S. President Donald Trump, who is visiting the region but skipping Israel.

The Israeli military on Tuesday struck what it said was a Hamas “command and control center” located beneath a hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis. The strike on the European hospital was the day’s second strike on a hospital, and left at least six people dead and 40 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

She is employing every device to extend her influence and increase her power in preparation for a fierce and determined conflict to regain control of the world, to re-establish persecution, and to undo all that Protestantism has done. Any ceasefire deal reached would be temporary, the prime minister said. If Hamas were to say they would release more hostages, “we’ll take them, and then we’ll go in. But there will be no way we will stop the war,” Netanyahu said. “We can make a ceasefire for a certain period of time, but we’re going to the end.”

His doctrines were received by thousands. He soon denounced all order in public worship, and declared that to obey princes was to attempt to serve both God and Belial. The minds of the people, already beginning to throw off the yoke of the papacy, were also becoming impatient under the restraints of civil authority. Munzer’s revolutionary teachings, claiming divine sanction, led them to break away from all control and give the rein to their prejudices and passions. The World Health Organization said Tuesday that according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, 57 children had died from the effects of malnutrition since the blockade began on March 2.
A WHO representative in the occupied Palestinian territories, Dr. Rik Peeperkorn, said that if the situation persists, nearly 71,000 children under the age of five are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition over the next 11 months.

Israel seeking to move Palestinians out of Gaza
Netanyahu has voiced support for a plan proposed by Trump for Palestinians to be moved out of the Gaza Strip after the war – a proposal that has infuriated Palestinians and Arab nations.
“We have put together an administration that will allow them to leave, but the problem with us is one thing — we need receptive countries,” Netanyahu said during his visit to the wounded soldiers Monday. “That’s what we’re working on right now. If you give them the go-ahead, I tell you that more than 50% will leave, and I think much more.”
Israel and the US have been seeking countries willing to take Palestinians who would potentially move out of the territory.
Hamas-led militants killed 1,200 people in the 2023 attack. Israel’s retaliatory offensive has killed over 52,800 Palestinians, many of them women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not say how many of the dead were combatants or civilians.
Israel’s offensive has obliterated vast swaths of Gaza’s urban landscape and displaced 90% of the population, often multiple times.

(Reuters) – Israel’s defence minister on Thursday warned Yemen’s Houthis will suffer heavy blows if they continue to fire at Israel and that its defence forces are prepared for any mission.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the U.S. would stop bombing the Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen, saying that the group had agreed to stop attacking U.S. ships.

Katz also cautioned the Iranian leadership, which he accused of financing and arming the Houthi organisation, declaring that the proxy system is over and “the axis of evil has collapsed.”
He stated that Iran bears direct responsibility and warned that actions similar to those taken against Hezbollah in Beirut, Hamas in Gaza, Assad in Damascus, and the Houthis in Yemen could be carried out in Tehran.

(Reuters) – The Trump administration told the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday that “dangerous behavior” from a group of Venezuelan migrants detained by the federal government in Texas justified lifting a court order blocking their immediate deportation.
The administration said in a court filing that 23 migrants at a Texas detention facility had “recently barricaded themselves in a housing unit for several hours and threatened to take hostages and harm ICE officers.”
Fearful is the issue to which the world is to be brought. The powers of earth, uniting to war against the commandments of God, will decree that all, “both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond,” [Revelation 13:16.] shall conform to the customs of the church by the observance of the false sabbath. All who refuse compliance will be visited with civil penalties, and it will finally be declared that they are deserving of death. The Supreme Court last month temporarily blocked the government from deporting dozens of migrants after lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union asked it to intervene on an emergency basis.
The administration’s Monday filing said the 23 detainees behind the alleged disruption at the Bluebonnet Detention Facility in Anson, Texas, were moved to the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, on May 4.

U.S. Solicitor General John Sauer told the justices in the administration’s Monday filing that the government should be allowed to deport at least some of the migrants immediately under other federal immigration laws. The government also said that moving the detainees to other U.S. facilities “creates ongoing risks of prison recruitment and expansion of Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang activities within the United States.”

Donald Trump is to meet the Islamist leader of Syria amid reports a Trump Tower could be built in Damascus as part of desperately-needed investment.
Despite still being designated a terrorist by the US, Ahmed al-Sharaa is scheduled to hold talks with the president in Riyadh on Tuesday, hosted by Mohammed Bin Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince.
The 42-year-old Syrian leader has reportedly offered Mr Trump investment opportunities, including a Trump tower in Damascus, and is seeking US sanctions relief.
When the leading churches of the United States, uniting upon such points of doctrine as are held by them in common, shall influence the state to enforce their decrees and to sustain their institutions, then Protestant America will have formed an image of the Roman hierarchy, and the infliction of civil penalties upon dissenters will inevitably result…. A Trump Tower is already planned for Jeddah
As head of the Islamist rebel group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Mr al-Sharaa led a lightning takeover of Syria in December, overthrowing the dictator Bashar al-Assad and ending 13 years of civil war.
Also known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the Syrian joined al-Qaeda in Iraq shortly before the 2003 US invasion and fought for three years against coalition forces as part of the insurgency.
He spent five years in prison after being captured by the Americans, and subsequently had a brief association with Islamic State, before denouncing the group and, later, jihadism in general.
Mr Trump is scheduled to meet him alongside Mahmoud Abbas, the chairman of the Palestinian Authority, and Joseph Aoun, the new Lebanese president.
Saudi Arabia has invested significant resources in helping Syria get back on its feet after the long civil war and the kleptocracy of the Assad family, and is likely to have lobbied the White House for this meeting.
Despite the regional support, a lifting of US sanctions against Syria – which would, among other things, allow the country to join the international financial system – is seen as crucial for the future of the regime.

However, the image of the HTS-led interim government has been tarnished in recent weeks by reports of atrocities against the Alawite and Druze minorities, the latter of which is a group heavily backed by Israel, which has bombed Damascus in a warning against further violence.

Despite the killings, Jonathan Bass, a pro-Trump activist, reportedly met Mr al-Sharaa for several hours in Damascus in late April.
He subsequently said the leader is seeking a “big business deal for his country”.

“He told me he wants a Trump Tower in Damascus. He wants peace with his neighbours. What he told me is good for the region, good for Israel,” said Mr Bass.
Any discussions – even preliminary – of investment deals in Syria would fit the theme of Mr Trump’s visit, when he is expected to announce high-value agreements, including arms transactions, with Saudi Arabia, the United Emirates and Qatar.
The Syrian leader recently met French president Emmanuel Macron, and has received indications of support from several other continental European governments, as well as senior EU figures.
